Lohagad.. Well the most well maintained fort of lonavala would be arguably Lohagad only. With its giangitic walls and amazing staircases it depicts a history of its own. Every wall echoes the richness of the past and the legacy of the legends. It seems that the Lohagad Fort wants to decipher the witnessing of greatness of Raja Shivchhatrapati!
Reaching lohagad is very easy as compared to other forts of lonavala. You can get any train till lonavala station and from there various private transports are available which help us reach the lohagad trail. The rickshaws take 300 Rs to drop the passenger at the starting point i.e, Bhaja caves from where the trek to lohagad starts. Tavera and sumo costs around 1500 Rs for return journey. The local raiway is another means to reach the destination. Malavli station would be the nearest station for lohagad & Bhaja caves. There are various trains from lonavala to reach malavli.
Bhaja caves
The bhaja caves have a very beautiful and well maintained structures and depictions from the past which makes you marvel at the architecture and scinece of the past. The caves opens at 8:00 am and closes at 4 Pm. The entry fees is Rs 15 indians and Rs 200 for foreigners.
Lohagad
It takes around 30-40 minutes to reach lohagad from Bhaja Caves. The logagad and the visapur fort are close to each other. The lohagad fort is to the right side on the trail. The lohagad is a well built and maintained fort. There are various restaurants at the foothills of the fort but one has to inform them before the trek to make food. There is no entry fees for the travellers.
