So as monsoon has started in mumbai and pune, there is no other time which is best for trekking. Mid of June marks the start of rains and greenery which is much pleasing to the soul as well as eyes. The huge mountains, cool breeze and enchanting waterfalls are literally the gems of nature which makes us realise what actually is heaven on Earth! To add cherry on the cake is the strong and marvellous forts which makes us realise the greatness and valour of the heroes of the past.
One such fort is the Visapur Fort which is located in lonavala. Although fallen due to the nature's wrath, it still echoes the story of the past.
The trek is moderate with muddy roads and as well as a path made up of huge stones. This trek will give you an experience like no other. Walking through dense forests and climbing through huge stonewallings makes the trek more the adventurous.
Once you reach lonavala you can get the local train and get on the very next station that is Malavli. The train fare is just 5 Rupees. Your trek to visapur starts from here. Walk straight untill you find a turn which differentiates Lohagad and Visapur Fort.
There is a right end at Hotel Viraj which leads to Visapur while the straight road leads to lohagad.
This Road is muddy and thus very slippery. After walking for about 40 minutes you will reach a small hut to the left where there is a small road which further leads to the jungle and a road going straight. The left is a shortcut to the fort but is quite hard with slippery roads. The road going straight is a longway but quite easy. It has stairs and the waterfall wherein the water is falling on stairs.
It roughly takes around 3 hours to reach the fort from Malavli station. On the way you can find Bhaja caves as well as Malavli Waterfalls. One can find various food joints on the way wherein you can get Food items such as Batata Wada, Missal Pav, Poha and other maharashtrian snacks. There is nothing available on the fort so make sure to take basic necessities along.
The Fort has little section of walls which symbolises the strong architecture of the marathas. There is also a pond which is covered by the green water. Also the flag at the end point of the fort is quite a spot for taking photographs. The calming atmosphere and the cool breezes makes you feel the whatever time you spend as less and lets you craving for more. However it takes just approximately 2 hours to reach the station.

So what are you waiting for? Pack your trekking bags and discover the nature!
